Facility Maintenance

Maintenance crew photo The Ellensburg School District operates and maintains eight facilities at seven locations. These include one high school, one middle school, three elementary schools, the District central office, transportation center, and print shop facilities. The Maintenance/Grounds staff consists of the Director, one Skilled Craftsman, one Grounds Foreman, and three Grounds Maintenance Helpers.

The department works to promote the safety, security, and health of every student and staff member in the District. The department consists of maintenance, grounds and custodial services with a mission to sustain new and existing facilities through comprehensive maintenance and custodial services. The department's goal is for all our customers — the Ellensburg School District staff, students, and community members — to teach, learn, perform, and play in a safe, secure, and healthy environment.

Grounds Mainenance

Grounds maintenance is responsible for the safety of the grounds around each school including parking lots. The mission is to ensure District grounds our well kept through mowing, landscaping, irrigating, controlling weeds, and using herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers to maximize the potential of our grounds.

The Grounds Foreman is responsible for the upkeep of 83.77 acres of lawns, sport fields, (painting athletic City of Ellensburg owned fields) irrigation, and parking lots throughout the District. The three Grounds Maintenance Helpers primarily work on needed tasks from mowing and pruning, to helping the Skilled Craftsman when needed.

Facility Maintenance

The District’s maintenance department is responsible for all existing mechanical and structural repairs including minor construction. The primary responsibility for the Skilled Craftsman is maintaining the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and boilers throughout the District, and many other technical tasks which occur. The maintenance team strives to ensure that each District facility operates efficiently and provides a building environment for academic achievement.

Custodial Services

The custodial staff work hard to maintain a high level of cleanliness throughout the 628,581 square feet of buildings within Ellensburg School District. Our mission is to provide a wholesome learning environment that enables students to develop the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and values needed to realize their maximum potential.

The nine facilities cover 527,434 square feet of floor space with an additional 159,105 square feet of floor space of portable classrooms, transportation center, print shop, and administration offices that are set on 125.71 acres of land. There are 18 staff members (five head custodians, a lead custodian at the high school and middle school and 11 regular custodians) who clean the buildings, perform minor maintenance work, and many other tasks that may arise during their shifts.
