Elementary School Enrollment & School Transfer Requests (Grades K–5)

In the Ellensburg School District, resident students in grades K–5 are assigned to an elementary school based on their home address.

If you are interested in having your child attend a different school than the one assigned to your address, please follow these steps:

• Register First

  All new students must register at their assigned (boundary) school before any transfer requests can be considered.

• Contact Your Building Principal

  After registering, new students should contact the principal at their assigned school to discuss transfer options.

  Current students who are requesting a change in schools should also contact their current building principal directly.

Please note: Transfer requests are considered based on space availability and district guidelines.

The Ellensburg School District allows for students living outside the district to request a waiver to attend school within the district. If you have moved to Ellensburg School District, please complete the New Student Registration.

Non-Resident Student Transfer Requests - (Choice Transfers)

If you want your student attend the Ellensburg School District, but you do not reside within the boundaries of the district, you will need to submit an online Non-Resident Student Transfer Request through OSPI’s Choice Transfer Request portal at Choice Transfer Request .(Click here to access OSPI’s step-by-step instructions for submitting your request in the portal). The Ellensburg School District considers requests for nonresident student transfers prior to the start of a school year.  Applications are reviewed in the order received starting on May 15. Applications received during summer (after June 30 and prior to August 31) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Please note that Non-Resident Student Transfer Requests are effective for a single school year only, and therefore must be processed on an annual basis. As Washington State Law requires that the Ellensburg School District has an approved non-resident student request form on file prior to claiming the student for enrollment funding – these students will not be eligible to attend the district until the process has been completed for the appropriate school year.
