A Message From Our Superintendent

Dear Staff and Families,

I’m writing to provide an update to a message I shared yesterday regarding a threat involving our middle school.

Ellensburg School District has been working closely with Ellensburg Police to investigate and respond to a threat believed to have been made by two students directed at our middle school. Police have advised us that there is no indication of an immediate threat or danger to students or staff. Safety is our most important priority, and this message outlines the quick actions our district took, in partnership with law enforcement, to identify, investigate and respond to the threat.

Background
Late last week, district and school administrators became aware of a possible threat involving two students. As soon as we learned of the concern, staff began looking into the situation, gathering information about the credibility of the threat, and coordinating with law enforcement. As a precaution, the students believed to be involved in the threat were removed from school.

Because this is an active law enforcement investigation and involves confidential student information, there is very limited information we can share at this time. We recognize that this may feel frustrating, especially when families want clear answers. We appreciate your understanding as we work to protect both the integrity of the investigation and legally required student confidentiality.

We understand that situations like this are concerning, and I want to assure you that Ellensburg School District responded immediately and is continuing to work closely with the Ellensburg Police Department.

Please know that student and staff safety remains at the center of every decision we make. We will continue to partner with law enforcement and will provide additional updates as we are able.

Sincerely,

Troy Tornow
Superintendent
