Parent/Community Application for ESD's 2025 Instructional Materials Committee

Ellensburg School District is seeking interested family and community members to serve on our Instructional Materials Committee (IMC) for spring of 2025 through spring of 2027. If you are interested in participating, please complete and submit this application form by April 4th. IMC members are asked to commit to a three year term.

About the IMC:

The IMC is a group made up of District and building administrators, teachers, and parent/community members. Its primary responsibilities include:
  • Ensuring that instructional materials align with Washington State Learning Standards and district priorities
  • Reviewing and recommending core instructional materials for adoption
  • Evaluating and responding to citizen requests for reconsideration of instructional materials
The committee submits recommendations to the Ellensburg School Board of Directors, which makes final adoption decisions. The committee typically meets once a year in the spring to review all materials up for adoption. Occasionally, there may be a mid-year meeting to review materials that need review because of a citizen request or for materials that need to be reviewed before the end of the year.

Membership Selection:
State law requires that parents and community members make up less than half of the committee. Applications for spring 2025-spring 2027 term will be selected through a lottery system, with priority given to those willing to commit to the full term. The committee will include:
  • One representative for grades P-5
  • One representative for grades 6-8
  • One representative for grades 9-12
At least one selected member will be a parent of a current ESD student.

2025 Adoption Areas: This year, the IMC will review materials for:
  • 9-12 science
  • 9-12 social studies
  • K-5 math
  • Reading lists for various courses
Next year we will be looking at P-12 ELA materials.
